American President Biden makes high risk trip to Ukraine on the anniversary of the Russian invasion

The United States president, Joe Biden, avoiding the dangerous airspace of Ukraine, traveled 10 hours by train across Ukraine to Kyiv in a show of support for Ukraine. February 24th marks the one year anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

President Biden said in a speech to the Ukrainians and to the world,

“[A year ago] Russian planes were in the air and tanks were rolling across your border. … You said that you didn’t know when we’d be able to speak again…That dark night one year ago, the world was literally at the time bracing for the fall of Kyiv. … Perhaps even the end of Ukraine. You know, one year later, Kyiv stands. And Ukraine stands. Democracy stands. The Americans stand with you, and the world stands with you.”
