The word of the day. Hot! No, I mean, it’s hot outside. And there is a pandemic…and I have ennui. Ennui, a feeling of listlessness, dissatisfaction arising from a lack of occupation or excitement, may be a fancy word for ‘boredom,’ but I think there is an added nuance to ennui. Besides the word is French. I looked it up. “Ennui-How to Overcome.”
I called my daughter, Katie. She has a 11 month old baby and despite being 24/7 baby watcher, she knows what ennui is. Katie knows what I mean by feeling guilty that I feel bored. It is a half world problem (not serious enough to be classed as a first world problem). I am in Tokyo! I live in an apartment on the 23rd floor and I have a Zojirushi rice cooker. I don’t have a schedule, no boss to make demands on me, and I have enough money to do stuff. But, I have my own reasons for feeling ennui. And did I say, IT’S HOT! 96˚, feels like 110˚. Let’s jump to the solution.
Call someone. Check. Talk about stuff. Check. Come up with an idea to do something new. Check. “I know what you mean, Mom. Maybe you’d like to learn something new.” She knows me so well. I am happiest when I am learning. Circle of Scholars, participant.
Katie began Lesson 1 - How to use Procreate on your iPad. The Procreate app is an application made for sketching, illustrating, and coloring digitally.
Equipment needed: iPad, Procreate App, Apple Pencil (or your finger/s will work, too), photos from your device, creativity, and someone to help you.
If you are interested - You can get the Procreate app for $9.99 at the App Store. Prior to the Pandemic, you could get free lessons at the Apple Store on how to use Procreate, however presently Apple is not offering in-store classes because of the Delta variant of Covid-19. If you don’t have a Katie in your contacts, you can learn how to use Procreate through a class on YouTube. I find it is nicer to have someone help me personally, but the YouTube videos are helpful. There are lots of videos, so I choose one where I like the narrator.
See my beginning sketch above.
